“A novel analytical framework for backcasting – Integrating Cross-Impact Balance Analysis with Actor Analysis to generate transformation pathways to sustainable futures” was the title of the talk by Dr. Mert Duygan from the Centre for Development and Environment CDE, University of Bern on October 10, 2024. Mert presented a new way to apply CIB to develop pathways towards normative scenarios that are not only internally consistent but also assessed as feasible due to the support of different actor groups. This approach combines CIB not only with backcasting but also with actor network analysis as well as MCDA and participatory methods. He used a demonstrator application for the case of paper recycling in Switzerland to generate not only target and systems knowledge but also transformation knowlege.
